Anita Louise King was born November 10, 1939, in Nashville, GA, the daughter of Lewis & Alma Watson King. She was a graduate of Berrien County High School and Norman Park College. Anita married Wendell B. Nix in 1959, and shortly after they made their home in Bainbridge. She was an active member of First Baptist Church.
“Just a housewife”, as described in an article published in The Post Searchlight (November 12, 1970). Just…included artist, landscape gardener, teacher, interior decorator, dietitian, and nurse for her family. Nita performed all the other “menial tasks” in addition to being the “helper” at Bennett Nix. She was well versed in taking trash and transforming it into treasure. The Nix home was filled with furniture restored to better-than-before condition.
Friends and neighbors knew Nita’s efforts in the yard always produced high yield making “Yard of the Month” difficult to achieve in comparison. She enjoyed celebrating, entertaining, and decorating for every occasion. Her quick wit and unforgettable smirk left an indelible mark on the hearts of those she loved.
Survivors include her daughter, Sabrina Nix; her grandchildren, Blair & Mariana; her great-grandchildren, Noah, Aliyah, Bellah, and Micah; her sister, Jan Howze; her daughter-in-law, Carla Nix; and a host of extended family. In addition to her parents, Anita was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Wendell “DocDoc” Nix; her son, Wendell Blair Nix; and her brother, Travis King.
