Benton Lamar Cannon was born April 16, 1938, in Bainbridge, GA, the son of R.A. & Estelle Baxter Cannon. He owned Cannon Timber and spent his life combing the woods. Benton was Baptist by faith.
Benton was a humble man who took pleasure in simple things. He enjoyed the outdoors, which perfectly fit with his years spent harvesting timber. The hours roaming properties left him with a long list of best places to fish, and he tried to hit every spot he could. Benton was the self-appointed protector of his family, a job he considered his greatest honor.
Survivors include his children, Teresa Watson (Larry) of Astor, FL, Tracy Ceaser of Florida, B.J. Cannon (Jennifer) of Alaska, Angela Cannon, and Richard Cannon, both of Valdosta; his grandchildren, Cheyenne, Bobby Ray, Gary, Randy, Darlene, Kyla, Zachary, and Ashley; several great-grandchildren; his siblings, Irene Nelson, Jeannie Mason, and Ollie Jarnagen; and a host of extended family. In addition to his parents, Benton was preceded in death by his wife, Regina Young Cannon; his children, Robert Cannon and Debbie Cannon; and his siblings, J.B. Cannon, Jerrie Furst, Myrtle Yates, and Charles Cannon.
