Betty Jo Engle Campbell 92, of Fruitland Park, Florida passed away peacefully in Cairo, Georgia on February 1, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.
Betty Jo was born in Leslie County Kentucky to Filmore and Tressie York Engle on January 27, 1933. She grew up in rural Kentucky amidst a large supportive and hardworking family. Her upbringing nurtured an incredible work ethic which ensured her arriving early to any and all events and getting the job done completely and correctly.
After attending Viper High School, she met her one and only husband, the love of her life, Clyde Campbell. The couple made their home in Fruitland Park, Florida raising their three children. They were married for 33 years until Clyde's unexpected and untimely death. Betty Jo was also preceded in death by both her parents, and siblings Viola Engle Shepherd (Gillis) of Middletown, OH; Maxine Engle Hamilton (Rollie) of Albany, GA; Lucille Engle Cox (Oliver) of Middletown, OH; Felix Engle (Irene) of Middletown, OH; Roger Engle (Charlene) of Guilford, IN; and John Engle (Barbara) of Sunman, IN. She is survived by one sibling: Arlis Engle (Geneva) of Batesville, IN.
Betty Jo is the cherished mother of Glenn A Campbell of Umatilla, FL, Allen V Campbell (Patricia) of Hollywood, FL, and Pamella C Bland (Rick) of Whigham, GA. She is the loving grandmother to Amanda Parsons (Christopher), Christopher Campbell (Stephanie), Amber Wallyn (Marcus), Kyle Campbell (Terran), Rylan Bland (Brunson Fain), Ricky Bland, Shannon Roberts (Cody) and Mason Bland (Nichelle). Several great-grandchildren including Braydon, Adrian, Emma, John Allen, Addison, Hayden, Cecelia, Olivia, Courtney, Hillary, Hadleigh, Tucker, Paizley and Asher.
As an avid seamstress, Betty Jo worked for several years sewing athletic equipment for Medalist Gladiator in Leesburg, Florida. She also sewed for her family and friends as she not only loved sewing, she was excellent at it; probably because she was a perfectionist when it came to her sewing creations. After her children were grown, her devotion to sewing prompted her to take a retail position at the local Fabric King to not only help others with sewing tips, but to seek out new ideas and information to help her continue to improve her own seamstress creativity and technique.
Additionally, Betty Jo had a green thumb. This was evident by her abundant assortment of flourishing plants and flowers and especially her year around vegetable garden. Her eagerness to share her harvest with all who would partake made her very happy. Routinely she sent fresh and canned vegetables when her children came to visit. Every day she worked tirelessly, but happily in her garden until physically she could no longer maintain it.
Finally, above all, Betty Jo loved to cook and looked forward to spending time with her family. Her home was the central gathering place for all of her children and their families to come for fellowship and full bellies! A great deal of love went into her delicious homemade banana pudding and peanut butter fudge, which was devoured each time she made them. She found contentment in making her family happy. She wholeheartedly believed in saving for rainy days and not to waste anything. Her conviction to help others in times of need is something she never wavered from. The Campbell matriarch will be profoundly missed, but will continue to be deeply treasured and always loved and admired by her family.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025 from 1:30 PM to 2:00 PM at Beyers Funeral Home, 134 N. Highway 27/441 Lady Lake, Florida with funeral services beginning at 2:00 PM, interment to follow at Shiloh Cemetery in Fruitland Park, Florida.
