Betty June Kelley was born and raised in Decatur County, the daughter of Gordon & Lucille Croley Kelley. She graduated from West Bainbridge High School, Class of 1951. Betty June met her future husband, Glenn, at Bainbridge Church of God. Glenn had just returned from Korea, and according to Betty, "All the girls wanted Glenn, but he picked me." They were married in 1953, and later had two children, Brenda and Eddie.
Betty worked at Jack Winter Clothing Factory until it closed. Due to her training at Jack Winter, she became a talented seamstress. She sewed clothes for her children and grandchildren. Often, she could be found at the sewing machine hemming or repairing clothing for family and friends. She loved crafts that involved sewing just as much.
After Glenn's retirement, the two of them enjoyed traveling, especially to military reunions where they connected with fellow veterans and their wives. In later years, Betty volunteered with Meals on Wheels.
In 1980, Betty's title changed to "Granny", and her grandchildren were blessed to be under her guidance and care. She was affectionately known as Aunt Betty June to her well-loved nieces, nephews, and their children. Betty's skills in the kitchen were unmatched. Her table was not fancy but always filled with good country cooking and love. Family gatherings had everyone vying for a piece or two of her chocolate pie.
Most importantly, Betty was a woman of quiet faith. She was involved in women's ministry at her church most of her adult life. Her life served as an example of unconditional love and what it truly meant to be the hands and feet of Jesus.
Survivors include her children, Brenda J. Huggins and Glenn Edward Justice; her grandchildren, Miki & Chad, John Guy & Erin, Kelly, Adam, Maranda, Dustin, Cody & Heather, and Derek & Jill; her fifteen great-grandchildren; her sisters-in-law, Frances Kelly, Jane Miller, and Geraldine Hand; and a host of nieces & nephews that she loved like her own. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn M. Justice; her step-mother, Ruby Kelley; her son-in-law, John Huggins; and her siblings, Christine & Ellis Lynn, Dempsey & Carolyn Kelley, and William Kelly.
A special thanks to Betty's niece, Jill Morrison, her companion and caregiver, going above and beyond the last few months. Jill was deeply loved by Granny.
The Justice Family would like to extend their gratitude to the Gentiva Hospice nurses who cared for Granny. Tonya Jennings, a private caregiver who lovingly cared for our mother, was a Godsend during our time of need.
