Chuck was born on August 7, 1943, in Duffy, West Virginia, to the late Charles Oliver and Beatrice (Long) Thompson Sr. He spent the majority of his life in Central Florida before moving to Southwest Georgia ten years ago. Guided by a deep and enduring Christian faith, Chuck lived his life as a testament to the values of grace, humility, and love.
Chuck was a man of many talents and even greater character. Throughout his career with General Motors and later in the citrus industry, he was widely respected for his unwavering work ethic, dependability, and natural ingenuity. Blessed with the mind of an engineer, Chuck possessed a rare gift for figuring out how things worked. He approached life’s challenges with a unique blend of patience and quiet determination, earning the profound respect of his colleagues and, above all, his children.
An avid, lifelong deer hunter, Chuck found peace in nature and loved sharing his passion for the outdoors with those he loved. He joyfully taught his beloved wife, Cheryl, how to hunt, creating a lifetime of cherished memories together in the woods. Chuck was also a patient and skilled gardener. He found great joy in tending to both vegetables and flowers, taking quiet pride in watching the fruits of his labor grow and flourish.
Above all else, Chuck loved his family fiercely. He treasured every opportunity to gather everyone under one roof, surrounded by the laughter of the people he held most dear.
Chuck was a strong, gentle, and caring man whose honesty and integrity set an example for everyone around him. He will be forever remembered for the twinkle in his eye, his mischievous grin, and his steady, comforting presence.
Chuck is survived by his devoted wife of 40 years, Cheryl Mullis Thompson; his loving children, Kimberly LeDoux (David), Jeff Thompson, Mike Thompson (Claudette), Kevin Ray (Rita), and David Ray; his dear siblings, Bob Thompson and Alma Strader; and a beautiful legacy of fifteen grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. In addition to his parents, Chuck was reunited in heaven with his siblings, Anna Lee Thompson, Russell Thompson, Betty Douglas, Wanda States, and Larry Thompson.
A private family funeral service will be held at the Bryant Funeral Home Chapel. For those wishing to share a memory or leave a condolence, the online guest register is available at www.bryantfuneralga.com.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Chuck’s honor to the Michael J. Fox Foundation to support Parkinson's research. www.michaeljfox.org/donate
