Daniel Lamar Humphrey, Jr. was born February 20, 1949, in Bainbridge, GA, the son of D. Lamar “Molly” & Janette Powell Humphrey. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1967. He began working before he was a teenager running a paper route and at Southern Auto, later ITT Plastics, a fish route, GA Industries for the Blind, and little of this and that. Dan was a deacon and active member of Beulah Thomas Church.
Dan Humphrey had an entrepreneurial spirit that thrived in whatever circle he was in. He loved people, sharing his stories and their stories, riding the river and dirt roads, wrestling alligators, and rocking on the porch. He gave his life to plenty of food, fun, and fellowship but also steered others towards Jesus. Dan’s ministry was in the streets and through Celebrate Recovery. Any cat with nine lives has plenty of stories to tell. This cat outlived his nine plus a few more. Volumes could be written and will certainly be shared with generations. Know that without a doubt a legend has joined the angels in Heaven.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Cynthia Blackmon Humphrey; his children, Vickie & Mitch Parker, Mickie Lindsey, Dee & Chelsie Humphrey, Gary & Jill Braswell, and Chad Braswell; his grandchildren, Drex, Seth, Gabe & Ansley, Dani & Jesse, MollyJaymes, L.D., Lauren & Jonah, Tanner, Kayla & Doug, Jessie & Jackson, and Tyler; his great-grandchildren, John Ryan, John Harlan, Eisley Claire, Anniston, Harrison, Brooklyn, Blakely, Emoree, and Brayden; his sisters, Flora Humphrey, Alicia McComb, and Carolyn Newberry; and family that extended beyond blood kin. Dan was preceded in death by his parents.
Legends are born every day but many times they are legends only in their own right. He always said, “Me & Jesus got this worked out” and today is the beginning of his story in eternity.
