Doris Lee Ward was born October 1, 1930, in Early County, GA, the daughter of Leary & Nellie Durrence Ward. She was a graduate of Miller County High School where she was co-captain of the State Championship basketball team. Shortly afterwards, she married John Luther Griffin and made farming her life. Doris was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.

Doris spent 51 devoted years with her beloved husband on their farm, building a life grounded in hard work and love. She found joy in tending her yard and growing beautiful flowers, each one reflecting her care and patience. Doris was known for her wonderful cooking and her skill as a seamstress, sharing both generously with family and friends. As a member of her local Home Demonstration Club, she formed lasting friendships and remained active in her community.

Her greatest joy was her family, especially her grandchildren. She never sat on the sidelines; she built forts, climbed trees, and even did cartwheels well into her later years. Granny always had the latest Disney movie on hand for a private viewing in case of inclement weather.

Survivors include her children, Craig & Emily Griffin and Keith & Tammy Griffin; her grandchildren, Jenny & Tom, Patrick & Ashton, Mary Grace & Alec, Gunnar, Sarah Beth, and Katherine; her great-grandchildren, Griffin, Isabell, William, and Nicholas; and a large extended family. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her husbands, Luther Griffin & W.H. Phillips, and her sister, Dorothy Rinehart.
