Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2, 2026, at Black Jack Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held immediately following the service. Rev. Tommy Huff and Rev. Tim Dean will officiate. Charlie Brock & Gay Sasser will also share remarks during the service. Active pallbearers will be Greg Calhoun, Gregory Calhoun, Colton Richardson, Chad Richardson, Cohen Richardson, and Calhoun Richardson. Honorary pallbearers will be his nephews.
Watson was born on April 17, 1930, in Model, Tennessee, to Melvin and Edith Sasser. The family later moved to Georgia, where he spent most of his life. He graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1947.
Throughout his career, Watson worked at the local paper mill, owned and operated his own contracting business, served as Supervisor of Maintenance for the Bainbridge Housing Authority, and owned Sasser's Appraisal Service. (And notably, was the first real estate appraiser in Bainbridge.) His remarkable work ethic continued well into his later years, and he retired at the age of 93.
A proud member of the National Guard, Watson was also a faithful deacon and lifelong member of Black Jack Baptist Church. He attended the church for 96 years and devoted much of his life to its ministry. He taught Sunday School, served as Sunday School Director, and in November 1989 received a Certificate of Appreciation recognizing 30 years of dedicated Sunday School service.
Watson's greatest loves were his faith, his family, and his church family. His steadfast commitment to God and service to others left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
Survivors include his beloved wife of more than 69 years, Sara Strickland Sasser; his children, Edie (Greg) Calhoun, Gay Sasser, and Tina Sasser; his grandchildren, Lacey & Chad and Gregory & Diane; and his great-grandchildren, Colt, Calhoun, Cohen, and Annabeth. He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Edith Sasser; his sisters, Helen Lillithum, Eunice Dodson, Agnes Harrell, and Elah Moran; his brother, Emory Sasser; and his great-grandson, Philip.
Watson's legacy of faith, hard work, and devotion to family will be cherished by all who knew and loved him.
