Greg A. Dean, 63, of Hiawassee, formerly of Decatur County, passed away Sunday, September 20, 2026.

The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 2026, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Hall and Rev. Tim Dean officiating.  A private interment will be held at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church Cemetery with Caleb Dean, Gavin Dean, Leonard Dean, Al Brock, David Henderson, Kenny Kelley, and Brian Brock serving as active pallbearers.

Gregory Allen Dean was born July 31, 1963, in Bainbridge, GA, the son of Crafton & Margie Faircloth Dean. He spent most of his life in Southwest Georgia before moving to Hiawassee, GA, where he lived for the last seven years. He worked as a caretaker with GA Pines and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church.

Greg had a strong faith and a personality all his own. Music was his thing, with 80s rock and roll ballads among his favorites. Singing karaoke was the best outlet for sharing his Top 40. An avid outdoorsman, Greg enjoyed fishing, hunting, finding arrowheads, riding the back roads, and spending time along the Flint River. He was a big Alabama football fan but could always settle in for an old Western when football wasn’t televised. Give Greg some good Southern home cooking and a glass of sweet tea (Tetley, of course), and he was happy.

Family was Greg’s greatest treasure, and making memories with his grandchildren was a high priority. Greg loved South Georgia and all the things that made it home, even if he could have done without the heat and gnats.

Survivors include his children, Kyle & Alexies Dean; his grandchildren, Caleb, Gavin, Hunter, Gabe, and Paityn-Lynn; his mother, Margie Dean Vaughn; and his siblings, Leonard & Cindy Dean, Rita & David Henderson, Debbie Doss, Tim & Jennifer Dean, and Sharon & John Gee. Greg was preceded in death by his wife of 37 years, Tammy Brock Dean; his daughter, Brandy Dean; and his father, Leonard Crafton Dean.
