James B. Hanks, 77, of Bainbridge, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
James was born August 6, 1948, in Mississippi, the son of Burl & Mary Sledge Hanks. He lived most of his life in Southwest Georgia where he met and married the love of his life, Jan Young. He spent forty-five years as a Catalyst Technician with Englehard/BASF retiring only to make more time to work in his shop. James was a Christian by faith.
Known to many as quiet and reserved, James was also the self-appointed protector of his family. He had a passion for cars and big engines, spending hours building, tinkering, and fine tuning. Taking a break from automotive work, James made knives, reconditioned guns, and even did a little squirrel hunting. Family was always first, and those memories will last a lifetime.
Survivors include his wife of almost 36 years, Jan Hanks; his children, Nick Chambless (Amanda), Heath McMillan, Bradley Garrett Hanks (Courtney), & Brad Hanks (Cristy); his grandchildren, Ava, Sophie, Parker, Corbin, Cassie, Landon & Zoey; his sisters, Robbie Sue, Sheila, Dot, & Patsy; and his dog, Tweet. James was preceded in death by his parents.
