Jimmy Gordon Gardner was born August 23, 1942, in Brinson, GA, the son of Durant & Thelma Yates Gardner. After high school, Jimmy spent two years serving his country in the United States Army. He had a successful career beginning with Miller-Hydro and later retiring as a mechanical engineer from Accuma in North Carolina. Jimmy was a member of Climax Baptist Church.
Jimmy was a good husband, a devoted father, and a loyal friend, the kind of good man folks could count on. He could build or fix just about anything and was happiest when he was busy. In his spare time, Jimmy was often out fishing, hunting, working in the yard, or knocking pins down with his bowling league. He loved to ride the roads on his Harley-Davidson so much so he named his cat Harley. And every now and then, Jimmy enjoyed a “touch of whiskey”.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Libby Gardner; his daughters, Kimm Powell (John) and Heather Herman (Mark Purser); his grandchildren, Tyler Long, Aubrey Brock, Trey Herman, Camden Herman, Lauren Musgrove, and Amy Hooks; and his great-grandchildren, Caden Brock, Gracie & Maddox Kate Musgrove, Mallie Hooks, and Emory Adams. In addition to his parents, Jimmy was preceded in death by his daughter, Val Gardner Lomas; his granddaughter, Hillary Brock; and his siblings, Vern, Rufus, Tom, Adonis, Duane, Alsie, Winston, Durant Jr., and Margaret.
