Joanna Rae Hurd was born April 26, 1951, in Salamanca, NY, the daughter of Elmer & Dorothy Bruyere Hurd. She lived most of her life in Colorado, making the move to Georgia in 2019. Joanna attended Iron City Baptist Church.

Her beautiful smile and forgiving heart drew people right to Joanna. Family took priority over everything, and she loved each person for their unique qualities. Cats, with all their quirkiness and sass, brought her much joy, and she treated them like royalty. In fact, Smokey doesn't realize she is not human. Joanna's favorite hobby was creating plastic canvas embroidery masterpieces. Her artwork, created with love, was gifted to family members and friends as reminders of how special they were to her.

Survivors include her children, Belinda Pangborn of Tallahassee, Michelle Pangborn Trujillo (Michael) and Kristina Pangborn Davis (Phil) all of Iron City; her grandchildren, Nyssa, Madison, Nathaniel, Lyndssey, Jake, Melody, Kevin, Aleah, and Dakota; her great-grandchildren, Emma Grace, Micah, Denver, Ayianna, Sofia, and Noah; her sister, Sharon Lee of Colorado; her favorite feline, Smokey; and a large extended family. In addition to her parents, Joanna was preceded in death by her son, Richard Pangborn, and her brothers, Alan Hurd, Elmer Hurd, and Martin Hurd.
