John Samuel Jones was born April 26, 1968, in Bainbridge, GA, the son of Johnnie & Marjorie Sandlin Jones. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1987, and Georgia Southern University. Sammy earned a bachelor’s degree in industrial safety & health and spent 20+ years working at Proctor & Gamble in Albany. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.
An Eagle Scout in every sense of the word, Sammy led not by proclamation but by example. His kindness was quiet yet unmistakable, his generosity instinctive, his loyalty unwavering. He poured himself into his work and showed up fully for his friends, making each person feel valued. Conversations with Sammy were never ordinary; they wandered through stories of his travels, the intricacies of his latest projects, and the occasional delightful detour into bits of random knowledge. A devoted Tolkien fan, he carried the spirit of The Lord of the Rings with him, often echoing its themes of hope, courage, and enduring friendship.
Life was richer, more interesting, with the “quiet guy” around. Sammy found joy in shooting sports and peace on the water, where fishing became more than a pastime, it was a refuge, a way to steady his spirit while absorbing the beauty of the natural world. Gifted with a sharp mind and steady hands, he was a natural problem solver, the person others turned to when something needed fixing or figuring out. Dependable, calm, and steadfast, Sammy was the kind of friend who stood firm in any storm—the one you could always count on, no matter what.
Survivors include his children, John Samuel Jones, Jr. and Hunter Seth Jones; his mother, Marjorie Sandlin Jones; his brother Steve Jones (Kerry); and his nieces, Bridget & Stephanie. Sammy was preceded in death by his father.
