Music was John's passion. He played guitar and penned words as melodies flowed through his mind. John never shied away from hard work, and often completed the tasks at hand with a song in his heart. He loved reruns of Gunsmoke and enjoyed reading non-fiction.

Survivors include his children, Jennifer Sue Sizemore & Tina Denise Gainous, both of Bainbridge, John William Sizemore, Jr. of Colquitt, and Melinda Lee Smith of Jakin; his grandchildren, Aaron, Ryan, Brandon, David, Tyler, Philip, Stephen, and Rachel; his great-granddaughter, Emily; and his siblings, Matt & Teresa Avery, Timothy Avery, and Thomas & Donna Avery.
