John Stacey Smith

John Stacey Smith, 70, of the Delwood Community, passed away Friday, November 4, 2022.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2022, at Delwood Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Hall officiating. Interment will follow at Delwood Baptist Church Cemetery with Sammy Smith, Clay Smith, Terrelle Smith, Rick Sirmons, Jim Cleveland, and Phillip Moore serving as active pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 10:00-10:45 a.m. on Monday, November 7, 2022, at Delwood Baptist Church. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.bryantfuneralga.com. John Stacey Smith was born December 6, 1951, in Bainbridge, GA, the son of John Hoover Smith and Sue Cleveland Smith. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1970, and earned degrees from Georgia Southwestern and University of Georgia. He spent a short time as an Ag teacher in Calhoun County and many years later retired from farming which he would describe as the best classroom ever. Stacey was a member of Delwood Baptist Church.

Straight to the point with a strong opinion on everything…that was Stacey. He was tough on the exterior but had a tender heart. He enjoyed gathering with his friends and family. A "gathering" could be a dove hunt, a fishing trip, or a fish fry. Stacey loved the outdoors and always felt a need to be outside which worked well since he was never still. Stacey had a green thumb as evidenced by the bounty of his garden. He never tired of tending the land and harvesting the fruits of his labor.

Survivors include his son, Josh Smith and his wife, Danielle, of Thomasville; his mother, Sue Cleveland Smith; and his brother, Jeff Smith and his wife, Amy, of Valdosta. Stacey was preceded in death by his father, and his brother, Cleve Walon Smith.
