Johnny Doyle Medley was born November 12, 1934, in Geneva County, Alabama, the son of George and Bertha Danford Medley. He was a graduate of Attapulgus High School. He married Maxine Hawkins in 1955, and they made their home in Attapulgus. Johnny worked as a lab supervisor with Englehard/BASF for 42 years and served as Mayor of Attapulgus for 50 years. He loved Attapulgus and its people and took great pride in being part of the community he called home.
His family was the center of his world, but Johnny always made time to visit with friends and share a good conversation. His faith was an important part of his life, and he served Attapulgus Baptist Church in many ways over the years, as song leader, chairman of deacons, church treasurer, and chief maintenance officer. Away from work and church, Johnny loved a good round of golf or riding the road on is motorcycle.
Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Maxine Hawkins Medley; his children, Keith & Karen Medley; his grandchildren, Kyle & Ashley and Dale & Haylee; his great-grandchildren, Abby, Makayla, Isabella, and Andy; his siblings, Dorothy Weathers and Oscar Wallace & June Medley; his sister-in-law, Sharon Jackson; and a host of extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by his son, Johnny Doyle Medley, Jr., his great-granddaughter, Madison; and his siblings, Ruth Antone, Robert Medley, and Edward Medley.
