June Hartzog Heard

Carol June Hartzog Heard, 67, of Bainbridge, passed away Monday, September 1, 2025.

The memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 5, 2025, at Bryant Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Marty Anderson officiating.

Carol June Hartzog was born June 24, 1958, in Bainbridge, GA, the daughter of Walter & Alma Smith Hartzog. June worked at home, keeping everything in order and everyone fed. She knew her calling was to care for those she loved. She was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church.

June had a special gift in the kitchen. She was a master of "country cooking." Her table was always a place of comfort and joy filled with her perfectly seasoned greens, tasty lima beans, and on-point dumplings among other things. She delighted in sharing meals with others knowing she played a part in the smile they left with.

Shopping trips were line items on her agenda. It didn't matter where you were headed, June was in. Most recently, she perused the racks at Belk and became an expert on their inventory. She had playful side that surprised many. June loved video games and often stayed up a little late playing/winning. Although she relished in winning the game, she would make you feel a little better about your loss with a treat from her kitchen.

Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Gene Heard; her daughter, Tonya Heard Cox (Tony); her grandchildren, Matthew & Emily, and Parker; her siblings, Freddie Hartzog (Susie), Lina Bradley, and Cynthia Cowan; her sister-in-law, Elaine Heard; and her niece, Jennifer Lilly. In addition to her parents, June was preceded in death by her son, Robbie Heard, and her siblings, Alvin Hartzog, Chuck Hartzog, and Sandra Beasley.
