Kirby Joe Weathersby, 81, of Covington, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Harbor Grace Hospice in Atlanta. He was born in Bainbridge, GA to the late Marcus and Louise (Cato) Weathersby. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sons, Steve Weathersby and Weyman Weathersby, brothers and sister-in-law, Wilson Weathersby, Butch and Linda Weathersby.
Kirby's hobbies included hunting and fishing (he especially enjoyed going fishing in the Gulf). He loved large mouth fishing until he was introduced to speckled trout fishing by Gus Powell. Kirby told his son, Benny, "that he had found something more fun than large mouth fishing". And once Benny came home from being stationed in Germany, they went speckled trout fishing and were hooked ever since. He was a quail and dove hunter from way back but got introduced to deer hunting after his son Benny hunted with friends in high school. Kirby's first time out he bagged an 8 pointer!
He was a commercial contractor who oversaw and built many different businesses, among them, cotton gins, peanut warehouses, schools and churches.
A man of great faith, Kirby has been a member of Solid Rock Baptist Church since 1988 to the present. He was a devoted family man who always put his family first. Kirby was a loving father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. He graduated from Bainbridge High School where he was the President of the FFA. After school, he attended ABAC. Kirby reminded his family constantly for the rest of his life that those were some of the best years of his life.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Benny and Nikie Weathersby of Covington; daughter and son-in-law Allison and Chris Middlebrooks of Covington; grandchildren, Brandie, Dylan, Tanner and Ava; brother Wallace Weathersby of Albany, GA and sister-in-law Jane Weathersby of Ellaville, GA.; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family will receive friends at Wheeler Funeral and Cremation Services Wednesday, October 11, 2023, from 6pm – 9pm.
