Leon Lenwood Merchant, 82, passed away peacefully at his home in Caribou on Saturday, March 7, 2026. He was born February 5, 1944, in Caribou, Maine, the son of Henry Merchant and Gertrude (Damboise) Merchant.
Leon was a lifelong resident of Caribou and a hardworking businessman who spent much of his life serving the community. For more than forty years, he owned and operated Lee Merchant Sign Shops in Caribou, building a reputation for dedication, craftsmanship, and pride in his work.
Outside of his work, Leon found his greatest enjoyment in the outdoors. He loved snowmobiling, fishing, and hunting. Time spent outdoors brought him peace and happiness, and many of his favorite memories were made exploring the North Maine woods with family and friends.

He is survived by his children, Kathy Lyons, Patty Merchant, Lisa Bell, Sheila Green, and Lee Merchant Jr.; along with many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will cherish his memory and miss him dearly.
