Nelcene Cobb “Nell” Mitchell, 88, of Brinson, GA, passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

The funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at Brinson Baptist Church with Rev. Robert Crapps officiating. Interment will follow at Brinson Cemetery with Nell’s grandchildren serving as active pallbearers.

Irma Nelcene Cobb was born June 19, 1937, in Colquitt, GA, the daughter of Charlie & Beanie Hart Cobb. She was a graduate of Miller County High School. Nell worked at various places over the years, including ITT Plastics, YMCA, and Dr. Leverett’s dental office, in addition to keeping the books for Mitchell Construction. She was a faithful member of Brinson Baptist Church.

Nell was a woman of deep and unwavering faith whose love for the Lord guided every part of her life. Her church family meant so much to her, and she found great joy in worship, fellowship, and caring for others with a servant’s heart. Through every challenge and season of life, she remained strong, prayerful, and steadfast, facing many health struggles with remarkable grace and determination.

Nell’s home was a place where everyone felt welcome. An exceptional hostess and wonderful Southern cook, she loved gathering family and friends around her table, and people naturally gravitated to the warmth, laughter, and comfort she created. She had a gift for listening and understanding others, an “amateur psychologist” to many who sought her wisdom and encouragement. Nell loved James with her whole heart, and her greatest joy was her family. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were truly the center of her world, and she always wanted the very best for each of them.

Survivors include her children, Kathy & Gary Shierling, Susan Brock, Denise & Ricky Cutts, Gail & Jerry Tack, and Lisa & Thom DaSilva; her grandchildren, Zach & Amanda, Cannon & Jenna, Sloan & Amber, Tyler & Leanna, Kaylee & Kaleb, Shana & Pete, Sara & Jacob, and Aaron & Erin; her thirteen great-grandchildren; her siblings, Geneva Roland and Janie Hinson; and a host of extended family. In addition to her parents, Nell was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, James Mitchell, Jr., and her siblings, Laverne McLendon, Margie Kirksey, Jewel Worsley, and John Cobb.
