Graveside services with military honors will be held October 17, 2025, at 4:00 at the Johnson Cemetery, 353 Kemp Road, Climax for Curran Jolly "Skip" Schenck, Jr, of Lakeland, Florida and formerly Tallahassee. Rev. Dr. Jerry Little will be officiating.

Skip was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 30, 1943, and graduated from Leon High School in Tallahassee. He was very active in Boy Scouts, as a trumpeter in the Leon High School Marching Redcoat Band, and water sports. After graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was assigned to Open Sea Rescue Squadron that served aboard the USS Independence (CVA-62) during the Cuban Missile Crisis Blockade. His squadron also served on the USS F D Roosevelt (CVA-42) and the USS Forrestal (CVA-59) aircraft carriers. Upon his honorable discharge, Skip was employed as a designer of high-pressure pumping systems in Birmingham, Alabama.

In 1993, Skip returned to Tallahassee, completed his associate degree at Tallahassee Community College. He was then employed with the Florida Department of Highway Safety. In 2015 he retired as an IT Specialist with the Marion County Tax Collector Office in Ocala, FL. and relocated to Lakeland, FL.

He is survived by his wife Laverne Bivens of Lakeland, daughter Amy L. Schenck of St. Petersburg, FL., sister Dorothy (Emory) Johnson of Climax, GA, brothers Grady (Marion) Schenk of Walden, N.Y., Jim (Jan) Schenck of Waynesville, NC, three stepsons and families Michael (Joyce) Bivens, Wendall (Karen) Bivens, Patrick Bivens all of Lakeland. He is preceded in death by his parents Curran and Dorothy (Siler) Schenck and stepson Randall Bivens.

The family extends a deep appreciation to Bryant Funeral Home for their special service.

In lieu of flowers a memorial contribution may be made in Skip's honor to the Leon High School Redcoat Band Endowment Fund, 550 East Tennessee Street, Tallahassee, FL 32308.
