Sue Salter Claymore, 85, passed away peacefully on June 23, 2023. After a recent advanced stage cancer diagnosis, Sue made the decision that spending quality time with family and friends was her primary goal, and was comforted to receive many visitors at her home while under the care of her children and loved ones.
Sue was born February 23, 1938, in Bainbridge, Georgia, to Claude and Esther Salter. After graduating high school, she supported her brothers, sisters, and family with a spirit of service. Sue was a devout Christian with a resolute faith that carried her each day of her life and gave her peace of mind in the face of this brief illness.
On December 13, 1958, she married her true love Paul Thomas Claymore. They had a loving marriage that spanned over 58 years, where they were able to travel and live in many countries around the World. She was the proud mother of three children, their daughter, Susan Carol Scott and sons Patrick Paul Claymore and Matthew Thomas Claymore.
Sue was an Air Force Officer's wife, supporting her husband and family during Paul's distinguished 22-year military career in which she watched him proudly serve his Country with a tour of duty in Vietnam as a fighter pilot and later as Commander of the Fighting 10th Squadron at Hahn Air Force Base in Germany. They decided to retire when Paul became a full Colonel on January 31, 1981, and moved the family to Houston, Texas.
Sue supported her children and grandchildren through their various career paths and life choices. Sue was a beautiful woman with strong character and impeccable style. She was a person who would drop everything to help her family.
Sue forged her own successful career in the retail and sales business starting with work at the "Damsel Inn Dis Dress" and then leading many co-workers and gaining so many dear friends as a Chanel representative selling classic fragrances.
Sue's heart of service led her into helping many people as an active volunteer in an Aids Ministry in Houston Texas.
Of her many hobbies, and loves, she mostly sought time with family, in particular sharing many of her delicious meals, cakes, and cookies during our birthday celebrations and holidays to the delight of all who received them. The family spent many days together on vacation at the lake house in Burnett, Texas. She did love to play a mean slot machine or get a win on a scratch off! She had many fond memories of each family reunion trip with her sisters to Georgia.
Sue is preceded in death by her parents Claude and Esther, her husband Paul, and many loving relatives, including her siblings, Bonnie, Nell, Irene, Riley, and Houston.
She is survived by her, daughter Susan Scott and sons Patrick Claymore and his husband Trae, and Matthew Claymore and his wife Donna, and sisters Dottie Riley and Lynda Wilson.
She will be missed by her grandchildren Rachel Webb and her husband Jacob and Kara Ross, and her son Peter, Sue's first great grandchild. She will be missed by her nieces, nephews, and cousins.
"Princess" Sue and her family are forever grateful for the wonderful care our friend, Tara Chenevert, provided to both Paul and Sue.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that memorial contributions be made to the following organization: Houston Hospice
