Vera Brock Wooten

Vera Brock Wooten, 96, of the Mt. Pleasant Community, passed away Friday, April 12, 2024, at home surrounded by her family.

The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, April 15, 2024, at Prosperity Primitive Baptist Church with Rev. Lynn Massey and Elder Walter Todd officiating. Interment will follow at Brock Cemetery with Phillip Martin, Mike Youngblood, Mark McDonald, Jimmy Ray, Larry Martin, Brock Holt, and Lee Holt serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Hill, Andrew Avery, Jr., Luke Bell, Terry Pittman, Jerry Ray, Terry Ray, Tommy Wooten, David McDonald, Eddie Holt, and Devon Brock.

Vera Mae Brock was born April 4, 1928, in Climax, Georgia, the daughter of Jesse & Armelia Boutwell Brock. She was a graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School and attended GA Teachers College. She married Willard Asa Wooten in 1951, and they made their home in the Mt. Pleasant Community. Vera taught at Pine Hill School and Mt. Pleasant School. She attended Prosperity Primitive Baptist Church.

Vera was a well-kept woman. She never left the house unless she was completely "put together" with every hair in place. Her home and yard reflected the same "well-keptness". Every blade of grass seemed to stand at attention knowing, that even into her 80s, Vera had command and control of the riding lawn mower.

Her love language was food, and Vera made sure you had a special meal on your birthday. She could cook most anything and loved to gather around the table with family. In her younger years, Vera enjoyed square dancing with "Buke". As a pillar of the community, she supported the Mt. Pleasant Volunteer Fire Department in their fundraising efforts throughout the years.

Survivors include her children, Gary & Renee Wooten; her grandchildren, Garrett & Jade and Amanda & Paul; her great-grandson, Asa; and a host of extended family. In addition to her parents, Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Willard A. Wooten, and her siblings, Riley, Clyde, Lola, Ethel, Lloyd, Adell, Gussie, Lessie, Juanita, and Irene.
